Neighborhood of Inhamizua
Household with OVC
Lucia Pedro is a 50 years old lady, widow, mother of four daughters (one already deceased) and resident in the neighborhood of Inhamizua. She currently lives with two daughters, Isabel Campo (20 years) and Julia Campo (12 years), and three grandchildren, Paulo do Rosario and Albertina dos Santos (both 11 years) and a baby of two years (son of Isabel Campo). This family was identified back in November 2011, by a DPMAS Sofala technician.
Isabel and her baby are HIV positive and on treatment since September 2011. Isabel receives nutritional supplements for the baby, provided by the Community of St. Egidio. Isabel's husband left them and married another woman. He is not providing food or financial support for the family. She presented the case to Muleide and General Attorney, but no favorable solution.
Paul Rosario (whose mother that works as a maid in Beira) was abandoned by the father back in 2001. It is suspected that he is in Muxungwe and married another woman. He is not providing financial support or feed the family.
Albertina dos Santos (granddaughter of Lucia Pedro) lost her father and mother, both deceased in 2004. Has no contact with the relatives of the father.
Julia Campo (youngest daughter of Lucia Pedro) was diagnosed with TB, and treatment was discontinued due to loss of health card. She is the only child of the family still participates in the school. Attend the 4th class.
This family depends exclusively on the financial support that is provided by the only daughter in labor situation (domestic maid). They receive 1000.00 meticais (one thousand Meticais) for the payment of all monthly expenses.
All members of the family (except Isabel Campo) have the upper and lower limbs infested with fleas (mataquenhas). There was an attempt by the Health authorities to eliminate the problem, after the visit of the DPMAS technician back in November 2011, without success. Colegio Infantil is following up on the case (mataquenhas were extracted during our stay in Beira), including improving the interior of the house (so that no host parasites). In addition, all members (except Isabel and son) were tested for HIV. All proved to be negative.
The family members have a fragile state of health as a result of malnutrition and severe anemia that seems to affect them all. All family members were enlisted to benefit from WFP food programme and Direct Support, granted by DPMAS.
